Our Story

The Best Kind was founded in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn by John-Charles Baucom—a lifelong science and horticultural enthusiast currently pursuing a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry.

JC was born and raised in Bed-Stuy, and began dabbling in formulating skincare products since he was a teenager. At that time, JC suffered from a severe and painful eczema on his hands for many years. Being unable to find over-the-counter products that helped alleviate his eczema, JC took matters into his own hands. He began researching and reconnecting with systems of traditional medicine (including Ayurveda), and the result of his efforts was the creation of the first ever body butter! After consistent application, JC was able to finally get his eczema under control. 

Years later, JC resumed making his body butter for friends and family who also needed some help tending to their own skincare needs. In 2017, The Best Kind was born!

Every TBK product is made using natural, non-GMO, organic, and vegan ingredients. We also do not use stabilizers, preservatives (including parabens), or added fragrances of any kind. As such, every ingredient included in our products is an active ingredient playing a specific and important role in nourishing your skin and hair.
